Quiet Book

Finally! the whole reason for me beginning this whole blog-a-sphere was to show myself that I am not hopelessly challenged in creating fun things for my family and the house. So... in a previous post I talked about making a quiet book for the grandkiddos! Drum roll please!!! Here it is.The cover is just generic enough that it could be for either a little guy or a little gal. I intentionally didn't put a child's name on the front so that it can be used by the entire family. You'll notice that the book is bound with grommets and rings so that different pages can be taken out and passed down to different kids. Remember when I talked about fighting over the one book with my sister that my mother had made? Now that won't happen!

Here is page 1~ This page was fun because it is very like one of the pages that I knew as a child. Fun buttons make the center of the flowers more interesting and hopefully grand-kids will learn how to button their own clothes! page 2~ This was so fun to make! I got this idea from "homemade by jill" blogspot. Such great ideas did I steal from this woman! So the doors open to show a brown pocket that finger puppets are stored in. Hopefully the little guys (and maybe little girls in future years) will enjoy making farm noises when playing with the "Barn".

page 3~ Again another "old-school" page...
Hopefully the fuzzy fur on this little lamb will be fun to touch and they will also learn how to tie a pretty bow!
pages 4~5. Old school pages again.
I have a really bad confession to make... I actually started these pages when my youngest son was an infant (He is 25 yrs old now... yes, a 1/4 century ago)! I just had copied the bear and tree and had colored them in with "permanent crayons".
"A tisket, a tasket... fill up the basket!"
The apples on this tree were made from a scrap of fabric that I had made a quilt wall hanging that I made for my sister Vicki. I'm a bit of a pack rat!
"Where the colors go" hopefully will help the kiddos' learn their colors!

pages 6 & 7.
Don't you love watching little ones play with cars? Well, so do I. The garage on this page has a hook and eye to work the door of the garage. I'm still looking for a "mini-cooper" matchbox for the Miami Sweny's. (side note.. Aunt A just found one on e-bay! Aren't "aunts" simply the bestest?
The tic-tac-toe is fun for all. Hopefully we won't get too competitive. After all, this will likely be played in church. Anyone want to take odds on that competition thing?
The pocket on the bottom of the page holds the playing pieces.

Page 8 ~ Undeniably, My favorite page in this book! Probably not as well executed as the next book I'm making... but oh well.
Zippers are always fun to play with and good it's good to know how to zip, don't ya think?!So the ark was so fun to figure out. I really wanted to put pairs of animals in the zippered portion of the boat. Couldn't find light weight ones so I made them out of scrapbook stickers and laminated them. Now they can play a matching game too! I did get this idea from a great blog "How to make a quiet book"

Page 9 ~ This was such a fun page to make. The shoe is kinda cute and I don't think its too girly. I used little grommets in the pink checkered vinyl and the sole and tongue of the shoe is suede type material. The tongue is actually it's own piece like a real shoe.

Pages 10 & 11

~ another fun page. I loved the quirky idea of "dressing" Mr Potato Head. There are lots of quiet books that have a How to dress page that uses the premise of a paper doll, but no... I found a great page from "Pink Lemonade" blog and mercilessly used the idea.
Incidentally the "potato sack" I made look like it's woven with red a zig zag checkerboard. I'm currently making a BYU hat for the potato man and basketball shorts. More accessories to come.

Here's the potato man "naked"
page 12 ~ This is the last page of the book and I simply had to give a "shout out" to the grand kiddo's "Pops" (aka my better half ~ "Mountain Man". ) Pops has been watching me construct this book and needless to say, he wanted some input! Everything Pops builds seems to last into the next millennium, so he wants his grandkids to be able to "build" something just like Pops builds.
